Daniel Cormier: Tony Ferguson Is Done As A Top-Level Mixed Martial Artist

Daniel Cormier believes Tony Ferguson’s days as an elite lightweight are over.

Ferguson is a former interim UFC Lightweight Champion and once had a 12-fight winning streak. “El Cucuy” now finds himself in a three-fight skid and continues to slide further away from the UFC Lightweight Title picture. His most recent loss was against Beneil Dariush via unanimous decision at UFC 262.

During a recent edition of the DC & Helwani Show, Cormier expressed his belief that Ferguson is no longer at the top of the heap at 155 pounds (via BJPenn.com).

“Tony Ferguson, as a top-level mixed martial artist, is done I believe. Make no mistake about it, he’s not losing to scrubs. He’s fighting the best of the best, but those are fights that Tony Ferguson used to win.

“He is not only losing but he is getting dominated. He has now lost 11 rounds in a row and has not looked competitive. So I think Tony needs to take a step back, and the level of competition obviously needs to drop, and we need to see where he goes.”

UFC President Dana White has said he thinks father time may be catching up to Ferguson. With that said, the UFC boss also admires Ferguson’s toughness.
