Daniel Rodriguez Feels He’s ‘Super Underrated’ And Saturday’s Win Opens New Possibilities For Him
Daniel Rodriguez thinks many doors are opening up for his future,
Last Saturday, Rodriguez (16-2) won via unanimous decision against Kevin Lee (18-7) at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. Rodriguez believes that the victory has boosted him in rankings, giving him a shot to take on a ranked rival.
“I feel like this fight really did a lot for me as far as ranking goes, and I want to see where I fall into the rankings system,” Rodriguez said. “We’ll see where it goes from there”
“… I feel like I’m super underrated, and today I just demonstrated I’m a threat to the division, he added. “I feel like I sent that message today, and I feel like I’m on the radar with a lot of these dudes.”
The 34-year-old joined the UFC in 2020 and already fought seven times inside the octagon.
In 2020, he fought four times and suffered only one loss. He is now undefeated in 2021 with three victories already.
In his matchup against Lee, a former interim lightweight title challenger, he showed great cardio and takedown defense. When everyone, even Dominick Cruz, thought that referee was supposed to stop the fight, Rodriguez managed to stay in the game, get up and finish his opponent via TKO.
“That definitely was the biggest win of my career,” Rodriguez said. “Kevin Lee was a big name, a ranked lightweight moving up to welterweight. I was the underdog in this fight, which is something I’m used to and I’m comfortable with. I feel like the whole underdog thing is really just numbers and rankings and stuff like that.”
“…I feel like I’m just getting started, and beating Kevin Lee just opened the door for unlimited possibilities, and I’m just going to take a week or two to sit back and see which doors are opened,” he said.
