Danis Denies Saying Anti-Muslim Slur to Khabib

UFC 229 got out of control immediately after the main event, and it all started when lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov jumped out of the Octagon to attack Conor McGregor’s cornermen.

After throwing his mouthpiece and yelling at McGregor, Nurmagomedov was reportedly set off by some yelling from Dillon Danis, a Bellator MMA fighter and teammate of McGregor’s who was cornering him for the UFC 229 bout. Danis is accused of using an anti-Muslim slur against the Dagestani UFC champion.

But in a statement released to ESPN, Danis denies the claim.

Khabib fans are attempting to smear me in an effort to justify his actions. I have never and would never denigrate anyone’s religion. I look forward to the results of the Nevada Gaming Commission investigation which will reject this bulls*** claim and put the blame where it belongs.

Nurmagomedov’s purse is still being withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The NSAC has temporarily suspended both McGregor and Nurmagomedov, with an official hearing date to determine further sanctions set for Oct. 24.
