Danny Garcia: I Will Expose Keith Thurman

Welterweight champion Danny Garcia is beginning his preparation for the defining fight of his career so far. Keith Thurman is believed to be Garcia’s most dangerous opponent. Garcia, however, believes he has the tools to expose Thurman and take his undefeated record.

Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) holds the WBC 147 lb title, while Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) is the WBA champion. Though Garcia has been chastised for the quality of his past handful of opponents — including the outmatched Samuel Vargas last month — a unification bout gives him the opportunity to he’s one of the best fighters in the world.

“We have no venue but the fight is already a fact,” Garcia told ESPN Deportes. “I think he’s underestimating me, but he will find out what it’s like to be in there with someone who’s an elite fighter. He has never faced someone like Danny Garcia. He fought with Shawn Porter but that was nothing compared to what will happen.”

Garcia was watching closely when Thurman fought Shawn Porter in a back-and-forth brawl in June. Though Thurman was praised for coming out of the slugfest as the victor, Garcia saw a myriad of openings of which he can capitalize on in March.

“He doesn’t like to take punches to the soft areas of the body. He makes a lot of mistakes and come March 4th I will expose him.”

A title unification victory over Thurman gives Garcia more than just validation as an elite fighter. It could also grant him the opportunity at a true money matchup against the pay-per-view legends of the welterweight division.

“After I beat him, I think I could go against Pacquiao or Mayweather if he returns,” Garcia said. “I think if [Mayweather] comes back and I have the championship, it will be interesting.”
