David Benavidez, Caleb Plant Confirm Fight For Interim Title
Benavidez was originally slated to face Jose Uzcategui.
Two of the super middleweight division’s top contenders are meeting in the ring.
David Benavidez and Caleb Plant have reportedly reached terms to fight for the WBC interim super middleweight title sometime in the first quarter of 2023, ESPN reported.
“You can’t hide from me anymore, I’ll see you soon,” Benavidez wrote on Instagram.

“I went and made it happen,” Plant wrote. “Contract signed. See you early next year.”
Benavidez was originally scheduled to fight Jose Uzcategui in January, but that fight was scrapped following backlash from fans, media reports said.
Benavidez previously held the super middleweight title two times. He lost it the first time due to a positive test for cocaine in 2018. He would regain the title by knocking out Anthony Dirrell in the ninth round in 2019, but had to vacate the strap again when he failed to make weight.
Plant is also a former super middleweight champion. He won the IBF version in 2019 with a unanimous decision victory over Uzcategui. He successfully retained it three times before losing the belt to Canelo Alvarez, who became the undisputed champion with the win.
Plant returned to the winning column by a brutal knockout of Dirrell in the ninth round on the undercard of Deontay Wilder vs Robert Helenius.
