David Benavidez’s Father Backs His Son Against Jaime Munguia – ‘We’re Ready’

Jose Benavidez Sr. has backed his son, David Benavidez, to beat fellow undefeated Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia

The talk surrounding a potential fight has been heating up with Oscar De La Hoya making it clear that he is keen on making the match up.

Those comments have also been echoed by Benavidez Sr. and the ‘Mexican Monster’ who have targeted the undefeated Mexican fighter as an alternative to the reluctant Canelo Alvarez

However, there are two potential roadblocks in the way. Benavidez is with the PBC, while Mungia plies his trade with DAZN. Therefore, a network compromise would have to be reached before a deal could get done.

In addition, Eddie Hearn has targeted an Edgar Berlanga fight with Mungia as a mega clash on DAZN.

And given that relations with Hearn and De La Hoya are not the best, getting Mungia to fight on DAZN with Benavidez may be an issue.

Regardless of what the case may be, Benavidez Sr. has backed his son to come up trumps if he faces Mungia.

“He’s a great fighter, Mexican fighter, and he comes forward. You’ve seen his fight [against Sergiy Derevyanchenko]. It was pretty close. I think he was behind on the cards, and then that knockdown helped him a lot.

“I think that he would fit good for David’s style. He comes forward, he has a good fan base, and we have a good fan base. I think that’s a fight that, if they’re watching, that’s another fight that we’re interested in. We’re ready to fight anybody,” Benavidez Sr.
