David Benavidez’s Father Reveals All On The Canelo Fight
David Benavidez’s father, Jose Benavidez Sr, has opened up on his son’s desire to fight Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo is the current undisputed champion at 168 lbs, which is why he is seen as the ‘cash cow’ in the division.
While that may have been the case, Benavidez Sr. has downplayed suggestions that the Canelo fight is being targeted primarily for money. Benavidez is the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt.
And to show their seriousness Benavidez’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, has confirmed that a $50 million offer was sent to Eddy Reynoso for the fight. With that being said, this is what Benavidez Sr. had to say.

“When everyone says ‘payday’, we don’t give a damn about ‘payday’. We care about history. We need that fight to make history and show people that we are the best at 168.
“He needs us, we need him. The only thing he needs for his legacy is [to fight] David Benavidez, to shut everyone up. Everybody wants to see the fight.
“I think we are [facing Canelo] at the right time. David is too strong, too big, too young. Canelo has too many miles,” Benavidez Sr
The chances of the fight happening may increase, especially if Canelo’s wish to have a rematch with Dmitry Bivol does not materialize. But for now an all-Mexican clash is still some time away.
