David Morrell Jr. Denies Receiving An Offer To Fight David Benavidez

David Morrell Jr. has denied receiving an offer to face David Benavidez.

The Mexican Monster’s father, Jose Benavidez Sr., alleged an offer had been made before Benavidez fought Demetrius Andrade. That failed to result in a fight as Benavidez beat Andrade with a dominant display. The Mexican stopped him after six rounds to retain his position as the WBC interim champion at 168. The victory places Benavidez in a position to fight Canelo Alvarez for undisputed.

This will likely make Morrell Jr. less relevant as he gears up to fight Sena Agbeko on December 16th, 2023. This is the final Showtime boxing card following the news they are exiting the sport at the end of the year. PBC and Amazon Prime announced a multi-year deal last week, which starts in 2024. The focus is on the Cuban, whose record stands at 9-0 with eight KOs. A fight with Benavidez would pit the two biggest punchers at 168 against each other, which Morrell Jr. was ready for.

“Every time, it’s an excuse [over offers]. I understand you want to fight Canelo for big money, and Canelo has the belts. Bro, don’t like like you’re the best, and everybody fears you. You didn’t fight me. For this, it makes me angry. You’re talking s***. It’s all for the people. Blah-blah-blah. It’s for show. Benavidez says if he doesn’t fight Canelo this year, he’s going to go to 175. I’m going to follow you, too. I want to fight him. That’s it. I never say no. ‘You want to fight?’ ‘Let’s go,” Morrell said

Morrell Jr. is an avoided fighter since he poses a high-risk, low-reward fight. The boxer possesses no belts and since he has had less than ten fights, there is more than enough time to face Morrell should Benavidez want to build up the fight. Nevertheless, Morrell Jr. dismissed the other names in the 168 division.

“I’m only four years as a pro. My name is the big name at 168. You need ten names for the big name. Who are you fighting? Caleb Plant and Andrade. Give me one big name that you’re fighting. Hell, no, I’m ready. Everybody knows I’m ready,” Morrell stated
