Negotiations between Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) were already in progress before the WBA officially ordered their mandatory lightweight title fight, according to Schofield’s father.
“Trust me, they are on that phone already. They was already in preliminaries before the ruling, they was negotiating,” Scofield Sr.
Schofield Sr. indicated Davis has not turned down the fight and that discussions are now centred on financial terms. Based on the current status of talks, Schofield Sr. talks are going well: “We are waiting on the contract. That is all we waiting on.”
Davis has not won a fight since June 2024, going to a majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025 in his only appearance over the last 14 months. The inactivity previously led the WBA to place him in champion in recess status before restoring his position at lightweight. Schofield, 23, is unbeaten and regarded as one of the division’s most promising young contenders.
