De La Hoya Aims For Garcia Vs. Lopez On February 10th

Oscar De La Hoya is keen for Ryan Garcia to face Teofimo Lopez in a mega fight on Super Bowl Weekend on February 10th, 2024.

Those comments arrived after Garcia teased a ‘big’ fight in 2024 following his recent move up to junior welterweight. ‘King Ryan’ has already shown his ability to sell huge pay-per-views following his last fight with Gervonta Davis. Despite being stopped in the seventh round via a body shot, the fight sold over a reported $1.2 million pay-per-views. That resulted in Garcia earning a reported $30 million. At the same time, Lopez has indicated his desire to fight for nine-figure paydays following his win over Josh Taylor to secure the WBO junior welterweight title. A fight with Garcia would generate those numbers while giving the latter a chance to secure his first-world title. With that being said, De La Hoya was aiming to make it happen.

“There’s a huge weekend, Super Bowl weekend, and I think the only fighter that can headline the event is Ryan Garcia. Ryan and Teo would be a lot of fun,” De La Hoya

An obstacle that could prevent this from happening is the promoters/networks involved. Garcia is with Golden Boy and DAZN, albeit not on the best of terms. The boxer is involved in a legal case with Golden Boy. Garcia alleged that his contract had been breached and, therefore, it was not enforceable. Meanwhile, De La Hoya requested that the fighter honor his contract. As for Lopez, he has had issues with Top Rank, particularly over not getting paid what he felt he was worth. But if those issues can be resolved, then fans can expect a huge fight in 2024.
