De La Hoya Blasts Wilder-Joshua’s Appeal In U.S.
Seems Oscar De La Hoya is looking to move the focus away from Canelo Alvarez’ suspension, and is poking at both Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.
Early Thursday morning, the Golden Boy Promotions CEO took to Twitter in an attempt to court them to his promotion with the promise of making them both bigger stars in the United States.
If @anthonyfjoshua and @BronzeBomber want to become household names in the US of A and stop doing mediocre raiding on Showtime, call me and I’ll make you superstars in the beautiful USA. #GoldenBoyPromotions

Has done a great job in the “UK” https://t.co/EgeNUCSGAH

The gist of De La Hoya’s Tweet storm on Thursday morning, seemed to be that while Joshua is a “national” star, he doesn’t have the pull he can have in the United States, and that Golden Boy would provide that for him. The same for Wilder who De La Hoya has been trying to woo back to the Golden Boy stable for sometime, claiming with no real promoter (Wilder is aligned with Lou DiBella and manager Al Haymon), Wilder can’t make big money.
If I was promoting @BronzeBomber I would take him to the UK and fight him with @anthonyfjoshua then have a rematch in the US. #idiots https://t.co/L700Yg8i74

While Joshua isn’t particularly interested in fighting in the United States anytime soon, and Wilder content with his team, it seems that De La Hoya is once again looking to stir the pot or throw his shots in the same way he did in 2017 during the hype for McGregor-Mayweather.
