De La Hoya Gives Update On Loma-Linares Negotiations
After taking the brunt of the criticism over issues surrounding an alleged Jorge Linares and Vasyl Lomachenko fight, Golden Boy Promotions chairman, Oscar De La Hoya claims the ball is in Bob Arum’s court.
On Sunday night, De La Hoya took to Twitter, to claim that he and his team have done all they can at this point and need Bob Arum to “pick up the phone” and call Golden Boy President, Eric Gomez.
As excited as anyone that big fight between @JorgeLinares and @vasyllomachenko is getting close. But it’s not done yet. And until lead promoter @bobarum picks up the phone and calls @makeawar, nothing can proceed #makethecall #linareslomachenko

It seems that both Linares and Lomachenko’s teams have made significant progress for a May 12th showdown at Madison Square Garden, as De La Hoya claims that a deal is “getting close,” but is not finalized yet.
The major sticking point has been what time the fight would air on the date in question, as the replay for the highly anticipated Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez rematch would air on HBO the same evening, in addition to a live fight card.
Golden Boy always contended that Linares wanted a fight with Lomachenko, but that the May 12th date was non-negotiable, but now both sides have agreed to the date with that condition provided by ESPN to air it earlier in the evening.
Lomachenko with a win would add his third world title in as many weight-classes, as he owns the WBO super featherweight title and previously held the WBO featherweight championship.
