De La Hoya: If Canelo Loses, We’ll Do Rematch
Canelo Alvarez may be expected to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6, but there are many factors in play that make this a dangerous fight for the Golden Boy star.
Mainly, Chavez appears to be motivated and in the best shape of his life, and will enter the ring with a massive size advantage.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says he is feeling the pressure ahead of the massive fight, but once the two boxers get into the cage he will be content with whatever happens. Even if Canelo loses, De La Hoya knows they will remain in a good place atop the game.
"Name me one other pay-per-view star in boxing today other than Canelo," De La Hoya said at Canelo’s open workout on Wednesday. "We have him, nobody else has him. Nobody knows how to build pay-per-view stars. We do. If he loses, it’s a great fight and we’ll do it again.
"That’s what boxing is all about. And I have to tell young fighters this. Records are not everything. It’s how you fight."
