In the midst of the chaotic media week for Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin’s highly anticipated rematch, Alvarez’ promoter decided to sneak in the fact he wants to run for President of the United States.
The former United States Olympian is “very seriously” considering a run for the Presidency in 2020, and has put together an exploratory committee.
“I am actually very, very serious,” De La Hoya told TMZ Live this week. “I strongly feel that if a Kanye West can do it and announce and maybe tease the world that he would maybe one day wanna run for president, why not me?”
“I’ve had literally, over the years, ever since I became a professional in boxing, I’ve had millions of people tell me, ‘Look, why don’t you represent? Why don’t you stand up and have a bigger voice?’ And obviously, the biggest voice you can have is being president.”
De La Hoya told the gossip site that if his exploratory team comes back with high favorables, that he would officially launch his campaign for the highest office in the land.
