De La Hoya: Pacquiao-Matthysse Will Happen
There has been speculation regarding whether or not a title fight between Manny Pacquiao and WBA “Regular” Welterweight Champion Lucas Matthysse will take place on July 14 in Malaysia.
As reported by Boxing Scene, Golden Boy Promotions and Matthysse are waiting on money that has been due to them. But on Monday, Oscar De La Hoya said simply “the fight is on.”
“I read comments on Bob Arum talking about Lucas Matthysse. Look, we have a fight with Pacquiao coming up within three weeks,” De La Hoya said. “He’s looking strong, he’s looking great, looking forward to it and fight is full steam ahead.”
Top Rank’s Bob Arum has stated the possibility that if this fight falls through, Matthysse could fight Terence Crawford, who recently won the WBO Welterweight Title by defeating Jeff Horn.
“I feel very, very confident the fight is going to happen, let’s put it that way,” De La Hoya said, regardless of the money issues at hand. “I can’t give you specific details of our deal but I feel very, very confident it’s going to happen.”
