Oscar De La Hoya is working on a fight involving Jaime Munguia and David Benavidez.
This news arrived in the aftermath of Eddie Hearn’s recent comments that he is keen on putting Edgar Berlanga against Munguia following the former’s win over Jason Quigley.
And given that Mungia does have links with Golden Boy and DAZN, a fight would have made sense. And yet, De La Hoya confirmed that talks over an all-Mexican clash are taking place.
“I’m working on a right now between Jaime Munguia and Benavidez. I’m talking to his representativeness of Benavidez, but there are whispers that Edgar Berlanga wants to fight Jaime Munguia.
“Yeah, if the opportunity presents itself, and we can sit down and talk. Look, business is business. I have no problem sitting down and talking to somebody that wants to do business and wants to create champions and build superstars. I have no problem with that,” De La Hoya said
Nevertheless, there would have to be a few obstacles that would need to be overcome.
Benavidez does have connections with the PBC, which would require a cross-promotion of some sort with Golden Boy/DAZN. But if those issues can be overcome, then a mega Mexican clash could be on the way.
