Demetrius Andrade May Vacate Middleweight Title To Face Zach Parker
Demetrius Andrade and his team are reportedly on the verge of vacating his middleweight title so that a fight against Zach Parker can be finalized.
The WBO had earlier extended the deadline for the purse bid hearing for Andrade’s middleweight title defense against Janibek Alimkhanuly.
However, according to journalist Chris Mannix, “Boo Boo” is on the verge of reaching a deal to meet Parker in a final eliminator.
Usually, the WBO allows a rising champ to leapfrog the top-ranked fighter, just like what we say with Emanuel Navarette, Shakur Stevenson and Oleksandr Usyk.
Both Parker (22-0, 16 KO) and Andrade (31-0, 19 KO) are unbeaten so far in their respective careers. Not only their showdown is likely to bring more entertainment, but also deliver hefty paychecks to both stars.
With another title win, Andrade will be crowned a three-division champion, having briefly held the super welterweight belt before being stripped for inactivity.
If Mannx’s reports turn out to be true, Alimkhanuly (11-0, 7 KO) will be paired with one of his fellow ranked contenders to have a shot at the middleweight belt.
He is ranked second by the sanctioning body, behind Jaime Munguia, who seems more interested in WBC gold.
