Deontay Wilder Appearing on WAGS Atlanta
Deontay Wilder is not one to shy away from cameras and drama. And now the WBC world heavyweight champion will get a dose of both as his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Shuntel “Telli” Swift, is among the storylines that’ll be explored in the new reality series, “WAGS Atlanta.” The show, which will premiere on E! on January 3rd, will focus on the lives of several active and retired professional athletes and their wives or girlfriends or “WAGS.”
The 32-year-old Wilder, the WBC heavyweight champion, splits his time between Atlanta and his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
In a preview for the show, Wilder is seen looking at a positive pregnancy test and hugging Swift once he learns she is pregnant. Later in the trailer, they’re seen arguing about whether she’s a “baby mama.”
“I don’t wanna be a baby mom,” Swift tells Wilder, who responded, “You ain’t gonna be no baby [mama].” Swift interjected by saying, “I am a baby mom without no ring. Don’t you feel it’s time to step up?”
In another trailer, Wilder, who discusses having four children by three women, is seen in a restaurant talking with two of the show’s other participants – retired NFL defensive lineman C.J. Mosley and retired NFL receiver Andre Caldwell. Wilder was asked by Caldwell when he and Swift would get married.
“Me and my girl [are] in sync with each other,” Wilder said. “We connect. We’re just taking it slow, so, you know, even if we have a kid first, we’re OK with that. But the marriage gonna come, though. I really feel like she’s the one for me.”
Swift, 30, told HollywoodLife.com that Wilder is her “job,” that she does “everything” for the 2008 Olympian. She said she’s his stylist, chef, maid, etc.
“Well, I’m a nurse,” Swift said. “So I can help him heal, recover and everything else. Prior to Deontay, I was a nurse here in L.A., so I guess that’s what makes it work for him. Being that he’s never lost [in boxing], I don’t have to worry much. He doesn’t get hit too much, so I don’t worry unless he does and that makes it easier for me.”
Wilder is set to defend his championship March 3rd against Cuban southpaw Luis Ortiz at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. A deal for the Wilder-Ortiz bout isn’t finalized, but it is expected to be officially announced later this month.
