Deontay Wilder Hopes To Fight Anthony Joshua In The Future

Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua have had numerous angry confrontations in the past. However, he doesn’t want to let that bad blood take away the fans’ wish for a matchup.

“I mean, right now we’re handling what we gotta do over here. I mean, at the end of the day, as I said, I’m back, so there are no fights that’s gonna be not negotiable to have or that it’s going to be nonexistent,” Wilder said on The Last Stand Podcast.

“No matter how I feel or how they feel. Because I can always go back on the run like I said, like the saying is, “I may not remember your name but I never forget how you made me feel.”

Wilder was set to retire from boxing, but he will return to the ring against Robert Helenius on October 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“When we tried to make that fight happen, they ran from us,” Wilder said. “I don’t make any lies. People can believe what they want, whatever, but I see it today, I still stand on 10 toes on everything. They know it too.

In 2018, his negotiations with Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn left a bad taste in Wilder’s mouth. He said that he was willing to lower his purse, which was initially at $50 million, to guarantee a fight. However, the agreement never came to the floor.

“I even lowered myself to a $12 million flat. Do you understand me? Why are they giving a champion who hasn’t even proven himself 33%?”

“I’m still in this business. If he (Joshua) is still in the business and I’m still in the business, of course, some things can happen. We’ll see what happens. The future is bright. I’m willing and able for any and everyone up in the heavyweight division.

Hearn called the $50 million deal a “PR move” and said that he wanted more information about this proposed offer. Joshua is currently negotiating a fight with Tyson Fury in December. On Tuesday, it was reported that Joshua had agreed to all Fury’s demands.
