Deontay Wilder’s return date is official.
Wilder will take on Robert Helenius in a 12-round WBC heavyweight title eliminator at the Barclays Center on October 15. The two will headline a Premier Boxing Champions event.
Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) makes his anticipated comeback 10 months after losing to Tyson Fury in a historic, exhilarating trilogy fight. Wilder managed to knock down Fury a couple of times, but the former champion’s gas ran out by the 11th round when he sent to the canvas for the final time and was deemed unable to continue.
Before losing twice and drawing once with Fury, Wilder was the WBC heavyweight champion from 2015 to 2020.
The American arguably rejuvenated the heavyweight division when he captured the title in January 2015. He had an all-time heavyweight best 91.1% knockout percentage.
Meanwhile, Helenius (30-3, 19 KOs) made more of a case for himself with back-to-back wins over previously undefeated Adam Kownacki. He has won six of his last seven fights.
In the co-main event, former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant will look to get back into the winning column against two-time WBC super-middleweight titleholder Anthony Dirrell.
