Derek Brunson Vs. Jared Cannonier Expected for UFC 270
The UFC continues to book their next matchups.
Derek Brunson is expected to face Jared Cannonier at UFC 270 on January 22. The winner of the fight will become the No. 1 contender for the middleweight strap.
Brunson extended his win streak to five in the last fight when he beat Darren Till in August.
In the post-fight press conference, the 37-year-old said that he deserves to have the title shot after beating Elias Theodorou, Ian Heinisch, Edmen Shahbazyan and Kevin Holland on the trot before fighting Till.
As for Cannonier, he bounced back to the title contention after beating Kevin Gastelum, who is now looking to return to the welterweight division.

Brunson has been calling out middleweight champion Israel Adesanya ever since he beat Till. The Last Stylebender knocked out Brunson the last time they squared off in November 2018.
Both Cannonier and Brunson have never squared off against each other.
Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker are expected to have their rematch booked as the main event of UFC 270. The UFC hasn’t, however, made the fixtures official yet.
With Brunson being the favorite to win the contest, he will get his rematch against Adesanya if the Stylebender beats Whittaker again at UFC 270.
