Derek Chisora Continues To Tease A Move To Bellator MMA

It appears as if Dereck Chisora is doubling down on his desire to compete for Bellator MMA. By showcasing his skills, Chisora is hoping it is only a matter of time until he enters the cage.

A former British, Commonwealth and European Heavyweight Champion, Chisora (32-9) is set to face off against Oleksandr Usyk in a mandatory title heavyweight bout. Originally set for May 23, the bout was postponed due to the coronavirus. There is no date set for the bout to take place. Looking to make up for lost time, Chisora discussed the MMA training he has been going through.

“I’ve been [MMA] training for two and a half years at London Shootfighters in Wembley with Alex Demetriades. I can do the MMA while I wait for the Usyk fight,” Chisora stated. It will be doing both at the same time.”

Recently, the 36-year-old posted his training sessions on social media, looking to show off for Bellator.

Going very good right now can’t wait to get in the Cage @BellatorMMA”

Speaking with Sky Sports, Chisora stated that Bellator has been in contact with him regarding a bout at heavyweight. He also told Bellator President Scott Coker to line anyone up against him.

“I’m ready,” Chisora stated. “I said to [manager David Haye] the other day: ‘Can you get me into a cage fight because I’m ready to go.’ So I think we’re working on that now, an MMA fight. I need it, so my next fight might be MMA or Usyk.”

Chisora joins rival Dillian Whyte as someone who is looking to compete against MMA stars. Whyte has been calling out UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou, but nothing appears to be close regarding a deal.

Bellator is scheduled to return sometime in July, with bouts taking place on a sound stage.
