Derrick Lewis Charged With Reckless Driving
Derrick Lewis, the UFC heavyweight, has reportedly been charged with the offence of reckless driving.
The news could not have come at a worse time, with suggestions that the arrest took place on October 25th, 2023, which just happens to be ten days before his bout with Jailton Almeida at UFC Fight Night 231 on November 5th, 2023. And at the age of 38, Lewis is in the latter part of his career, which has made the setback more damaging. After all, the upcoming bout was Lewis’ first since he had signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC after having become a free agent following his victory over Marcos Rogerio de Lima.
He's a record-setting, viral moment-making heavyweight from Houston, but instead of fight gloves, Derrick Lewis was wearing handcuffs days out from a headlining bout. More details are here: https://t.co/rIaHdmmG0o pic.twitter.com/rYQPpq9AN0

Reports, as per the Harris County (Texas) police, stress that Lewis was speeding by driving 136 mph in just a 50 mph zone. And given that Lewis had been driving a red Lamborghini, the reckless driving was all the more noticeable due to the unsafe lane changes that he was making. Lewis was subqsequently released on a $100 bond as the MMA fighter is required to attend court on December 27th, 2023. If Lewis is found guilty, then he could face as much as 30 days in jail as well as a fine of $200.
