Determined Tim Tszyu Ready To Take Down Jeff Horn
Still considered the underdog in his fight against Tim Tszyu, Jeff Horn is not feeling threatened by someone who may have an issue with the weigh-ins. Will that lead to his downfall?
Horn (20-2-1) is set to face off against Tszyu (15-0) inside Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, Australia on August 26. A former WBO Welterweight Champion, Horn believes that Tszyu will be coming into the fight lighter than expected.
“I think it’s silly. I don’t know if he’s lying, but telling me he’s only 70.5kg … I’ll be throwing him around like a rag doll if he’s that light,” Horn stated to ESPN.
“It’s a massive size difference. I can’t believe him … how crazy to [already] be 70.5 for a 69.85 fight.”
Horn beat Manny Pacquiao in 2016 for the WBO Welterweight Title via controversial scoring. He would lose the title to Terence Crawford in 2018 and is 2-1 since then. An Oceania and WBO Oriental Middleweight Champion, Horn respects Tszyu’s family name despite the fact he believes he can take care of Tim easily.
Tszyu, however, may just be playing mind games with Horn. The son of former world champion Kostya Tszyu, Tim turned professional in 2016. He won the WBC-ABCO Continental Light-Middleweight Title in his seventh fight. In his 14th pro fight, Tszyu won the IBF Australasian and WBO Global Light-Middleweight Titles, which he will be defending against Horn.
With Horn saying he will rag doll him, Tszyu is willing to call his bluff.
“Rag doll, what’s that mean? If he wants to play those games, we will play those games as well,” Tszyu stated “It’s quite simple. It’s a fight. We’re not ballerinas in there. He’s going to be punching me. I’m going to be punching him, of course. He’s not going to be patting my head.
“Sometimes you want to get into a war … If it gets dirty, it gets dirty. I can bang it out.”
The fight will air on ESPN + with the main card starting at 5 a.m. ET/2 a.m. PT.
