Devin Haney Aims To Decimate Yuriorkis Gamboa

Devin Haney hopes to make a statement when he fights Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Haney is set to put his WBC Lightweight Championship on the line against Gamboa this Saturday night, November 7. The title fight will headline a Matchroom Boxing USA card set to air live on DAZN in the United States. This will be Haney’s second title defense.

Many expect Haney to handle business against Gamboa. As of this writing, Haney is a -2000 favorite over Gamboa, who is a +800 underdog according to BetMGM. Still, Haney wants to put on a dominant display and leave no doubt that he is an elite lightweight (via

“I don’t just want to win, I want to win in spectacular fashion. I want to beat Gamboa worse than anyone has to date. I want to show him that I am the best fighter in the world and better than anyone he’s ever faced. I have to make a statement. The eyes of the boxing world are all on me again. They’ve heard me talk the talk and now it’s time to walk the walk.”

Haney’s undefeated record is also at stake. He has amassed a record of 24-0. Along the way, he has scored 15 of those victories via knockout.

Haney finds himself in a rough spot in terms of mainstream appeal. At the moment, Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis seem to have grabbed all the attention at 135 pounds. While Davis still feels he has unfinished business at 130 pounds, there’s no denying that Haney is struggling to find his way into the mainstream.

Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum has even expressed his belief that Haney lacks the fan backing to make a bout with Lopez enticing. The good news for Haney is that he has a ton of backing from DAZN as the sports streaming platform sees him as a potential star of the future. Whether or not he can get over the hump of not being in the limelight remains to be seen.
