Devin Haney Arrives In Melbourne For The George Kambosos Jr Rematch
Devin Haney has reached Melbourne where he will defend his lightweight titles for the first time against home-favorite George Kambosos Jr at the Rod Laver Arena on October 16.
Kambosos Jr (20-1, 10 KOs) was the unified champ before facing Haney last June. The 28-0 fighter gave Kambosos a run for his money and defeated him in front of his home crowd.
This was the maiden loss of the Australian star’s professional career, who was coming off the biggest win of his career against Teofimo Lopez.
Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) is facing former unified champ as part of their rematch clause from their first fight last June.
“George is a live body. He had the belts; he tasted what the belts was about,” Haney told Fighthype in a recent interview.
“Now that he lost them, he wants them back, obviously. I can’t take him lightly. I know he’s going to come with a different approach, a different game plan, and come back more hungry than he did last time.
Kambosos had tons of interviews prior to his first fight against Haney, but that has changed the second time around. But the undefeated 23-year-old isn’t taken aback with it.
“No, I’m not surprised. He should have been quiet the first time,” he added.
“I was very professional, and he got out of character trying to get me out of character. It kind of backfired on him. so it worked against him. Of course, he’s taking a different approach. A lot of the things he did wrong the first time, he’s trying to adjust.”
