Devin Haney: A Fight With Me & Lomachenko Would Still Be Huge
WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney thinks there’s still a lot of juice when it comes to a matchup with Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Haney and Lomachenko recently had an exchange on Twitter that got fight fans buzzing. It all started when Haney alluded to Lomachenko being silent following his loss to Teofimo Lopez. “Loma” responded by saying Haney is all talk and hasn’t had a major fight yet.
During a chat with the folks at Fight Hype, Haney expressed his belief that a tilt against Lomachenko still has a lot of interest from fans (h/t Bad Left Hook).
“I’m happy that he finally acknowledged me and finally is interested in making the fight. It sucks now that it comes after he took a loss. I would rather it be when he was on top. But at the end of the day a fight with me and Loma will still be huge and it’s a fight that I would welcome.
“We not ruling nobody out. Whether it’s Javier Fortuna, whether it’s Loma, whether it’s Ryan, whether it’s Teo, whether it’s Tank — it doesn’t matter, I want to fight the best fighters and I want to keep climbing, keep beating them one at a time.”
Haney is reportedly set for a title defense against Jorge Linares. If that fight holds up, then it would arguably be “The Dream’s” toughest battle to date. Many have been calling for Haney to fight the likes of Lomachenko, Lopez, Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Javier Fortuna. It’ll be interesting to see when Haney will get those marquee fights.
Lomachenko has claimed that he never received an offer to fight Haney. “Loma” said that either an offer will be presented to him before his Top Rank deal is up, or he’ll fight Haney under the Matchroom banner. Either way, there appears to be mutual interest.
