Devin Haney Mocks The WBO’s Title-Decision Rejection
Devin Haney has mocked the WBO’s refusal to grant him an extra 24 hours to decide if he would be willing to fight for the WBO junior welterweight title.
According to reports, the undisputed lightweight champion was keen on getting an extension with suggestions that Haney was seeing if Teofimo Lopez would vacate.
The ‘Takeover’ had recently confirmed that he would be retiring following his win over Josh Taylor to get the title.
While Lopez has subsequently backtracked on that decision, Haney required more time to decide his next steps: to either stay at 135 lbs or move up to 140. However, Haney’s request for an extension was denied.
Devin Haney praying real hard for the next few hrs since his WBO Extension Request was Denied 🚫 hoping Teo vacates 1st, so he can fight Barboza & escape the claws of Regis Prograis, a Lomachenko Rematch or having to face Shakur.🙏 😅

“Wherefore, having considered the arguments provided by Team Haney, this Committee is denying the request and consequently enforcing the conditions set forth by this Committee in its Resolution,” Luis Batista Salas, chairman of the championship commit for WBO
In response, Haney simply replied to the WBO with the following jibe: “HAHAHAHAHHAHA.”
Facing Lopez would be the more lucrative fight, rather than facing the number one WBO contender Arnold Barboza Jr.
However, if Haney decides against fighting for the WBO belt, there is a possibility of a fight with Regis Prograis for the WBC title.
Eddie Hearn has confirmed that an offer has been made to team Haney, giving the ‘Dream’ numerous possibilities at 140.
