Devin Haney Turns Attention To Ryan Garcia After Gervonta Davis’ Silence

Devin Haney has ruled out a fight with Gervonta Davis for now as he targets Ryan Garcia

Garcia recently revealed he was in touch with team Haney to kick off negotiations for a fight in 2024. That was consistent with his comments following Haney’s victory over Regis Prograis to become the new WBC junior welterweight champion. Garcia indicated his intention to fight Haney in 2024, which Haney has backed up with his following comments.

“We’re in negotiations with Oscar and Ryan, Ryan’s lawyer, and Ryan’s team, so it could very much be what’s next. We’re still in the beginning stages of negotiations. Matchroom is part of the team,” Haney stated

A fight with Gervonta Davis could still happen. Davis and Haney’s camp were recently in a social media exchange. Bill Haney claimed Davis rejected a $20 million offer. Davis reacted by telling Haney’s side to contact Al Haymon. Since then, Eddie Hearn revealed Davis failed to follow up on a private message about discussing the fight.

Haney may have moved on, but it does set up the potential for a Davis fight after Garcia. Davis is expected to return to the ring in the spring after his time in prison. The winner of Haney and Garcia could then face Davis. That is why Haney has not dismissed it.

“There’s no real negotiations. That’s a fight that I would love, but nothing has taken off. His team hasn’t reached out to us or anything like that. They said they would need to send us an offer, and they would be the ones that would be reaching out and doing that. Nobody has done that,” Haney said

Making the Garcia fight has not been so easy, though. Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, has criticized Bill Haney’s negotiation tactics. Bill’s comments about Gervonta Davis rejecting $20 million resulted in the boxer blocking him on Instagram. Bill also fired shots at Leonard Ellerbe and Bob Arum after they confirmed reports that the Haney-Prograis fight only did 50,000 PPV buys. Now it appears Bill has rubbed up team Garcia the wrong way.

“Trust me, Bill Haney is a smart man. He knows what he has to do. He knows what he has to do. Alright? But the way he’s doing it is all wrong right now. Because the thing is this bro, you never upset a fighter prior to anything.

“You don’t want to do that because you’re like saying, ‘Hey man you’re full of this, you’re a piece of this and you’re a piece of that but can you let me in for a moment so we can have dinner?’ That’s why I say go to church, brother,” Garcia said
