Devin Haney Vs. George Kambosos Jr II Might Happen After All
After the fight for unified lightweight champion in June, a rematch clause was brought to discussion, another fight between Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) and George Kambosos (20-1, 10 KOs) to come.
The fight will take place in October, Kambosos wanting to bring home a victory to Australia after his loss last month against Haney.
Although the rematch has been in the works, there has also been talk that Kambosos first stop may not be in the ring with Haney.
Haney also implied that his next match will not be against Kambosos.
“We don’t know. We’re weighing our options,” said Haney. “Possibly, possibly not. We just gotta see what makes the most sense for me and my team. October, I will be fighting but we don’t know who yet.”
Haney is in search for the biggest fights and that might just be against Ukrainian former Lightweight number one Vasiliy Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs). Lomachenko has been taking a break from boxing but plans to return come October.
“I’ve been saying that for a while now. If it makes sense, the biggest fights then let’s do it.” shared Haney. “And we can make it make sense. It’s nothing that we can’t figure out, come to an agreement and make these fights happen like I did while out in Australia.”
It is likely that the rematch will occur according to boxing journalist Dan Rafael. The fight would take place on October 16 at Rod Laver Stadium.
“Kambosos does [want the rematch] and the sequel is being planned to headline a Top Rank Boxing on ESPN card on Oct 15 at famed Rod Laver Stadium – home of the tennis Australian Open – in Melbourne (where it will be Oct. 16 Australia time,)” shared Rafael.
