Devin Haney vs Keyshawn Davis Is Off

After Top Rank overpaid by bidding $8.5 million to secure the Devin Haney vs Keyshawn Davis welterweight championship fight (outbidding the second highest offer of just $2.3m), Davis declined his mandatory WBO title shot vs Haney, reportedly because he wasn’t happy with his $2.1 million dollar share of the purse, and was looking for an unrealistic $5 million payday.

Following Keyshawn’s decision, the WBO punished him by dropping him from their top ranked fighter at 147-pounds all the way down to number 7 behind the likes of Arnold Barboza Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Ricardson Hitchins, among others, despite not losing a fight. The new positioning is a far cry from the previous No.1 spot he used to hold as a 15-0 fighter with 10 knockouts and one No Contest.

Davis has moved through multiple weight classes as of late, beating Denys Berinchyk by knockout in a WBO lightweight world title fight in 2025, before moving to super lightweight for a non-title stoppage win over Jamaine Ortiz earlier this year. He made his welterweight debut in May and defeated Nahir Albright by decision.

The WBO champion Haney, meanwhile, would have earned $6.4 million — a 75% champion’s share of Top Rank’s winning $8.5 million purse bid — had the fight gone ahead.

Before the failed fight against Davis, Haney had been in negotiations with Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, was linked to a rematch vs Ryan Garcia, and a possible fight vs Shakur Stevenson, however he couldn’t get any of those deals done and now with Devin unable to secure yet another fight,  it’s unclear where he goes from here, especially since the new WBO #1 contender, Brian Norman Jr., would not be a high-profile match for Haney.
