Devin Haney Wants Teofimo Lopez, Then Gervonta Davis
Devin Haney wants to solidify his place in boxing’s lightweight division.
Haney holds the WBC Lightweight Championship but some are questioning the legitimacy of his claim to the gold. Teofimo Lopez holds the WBC (Franchise) Title along with the WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO Titles. Some consider Lopez to be the real WBC titleholder and view Haney as a secondary champion. Haney doesn’t agree with this notion and he hopes to prove he is the best thing going at 135 pounds.
Fight Hub TV caught up with Haney following his unanimous decision victory over Yurirokis Gamboa. Haney said that his future plans include a showdown with Lopez, followed by a tilt with Gervonta Davis (via Bad Left Hook).
“My next will be Teofimo Lopez because that would be for all the belts of course and I would want to be undisputed champion of the lightweight division, and then I would say Gervonta Davis. The boxer, the guy with the better skill set, always last longer. You can go back to the Sugar Ray days, Ali days, whatever days you want to go too. The boxer always finishes last and at the end of it I’m going to be on top.”
Davis holds the WBA (Regular) Lightweight Title. He’s also the WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight titleholder after knocking out Leo Santa Cruz.
Many would agree that the lightweight division is stacked. With elite talent such as Haney, Lopez, Davis, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and Ryan Garcia, the 135-pound division has a ton of eyeballs on it.
