Devin Haney Wants To Fight Vasiliy Lomachenko Before Ramadan, But Not Sure Top Rank Will Give Him It
Haney claimed in a tweet that his fight with Lomachenko might be pushed to May.
Devin Haney’s undisputed title defense against former unified champion Vasiliy Lomachenko might have a problem.
Haney expressed his concern on social media Monday night where he said that he made it clear to Top Rank that he wants to face the pound-for-pound boxer, Lomachenko, in March so it doesn’t conflict with Ramadan, a month-long observance in the Islamic calendar that consists of prayer and fasting. It takes place between March 22 and April 21.
On Twitter, Haney suggested that Top Rank is favoring Lomachenko.
“These people want try to push my next fight with Loma to May… knowing the longer I stay at the weight the harder it is to make! Let’s do this sh-t in March!” Haney wrote.
Haney has publicly spoke about his struggles with making weight at 135 pounds and has considered moving up to 140.
“I literally told Top Rank I wanted to fight before Ramadan,” Haney wrote in another tweet.
“It’s not about the someone else… it’s about giving me a date to fight! You know they want they boy Loma to have another shot!” Haney added.

Top Rank has not commented on the tweets.
Lomachenko has been with the promotional company his entire professional career. Haney, meanwhile, joined the company earlier this year as part of a deal to get the undisputed title shot at then-champion George Kambosos Jr.
Haney and Lomachenko’s respective teams entered talks early in November – just days after Haney appeared ringside for Lomachenko’s fight against scrappy Jamaine Ortiz in October.
Then, Bill Haney, father and trainer of Devin, said that an announcement would be coming soon, but that comment was from two weeks ago.
Haney is coming off of back-to-back wins against Kambosos. The latest fight was more decisive than the first.
