Devin Haney Will Have New Trainer In Corner For George Kambosos Fight
Devin Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) will have a new trainer, as he flies over into hostile territory to lock horns with WBA, WBO, and IBF champion George Kambosos.
This match is a full division unification and is set to take place on June 5, at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, will not be at the ringside for his son due to decades old criminal charges preventing him from entering Australia.
Therefore, the ringside for the 23-year-old will have a veteran coach Yoel Judah, who is the father of former world champion Zab Judah.
“I think (Haney’s) 101 percent,” Judah said in an interview with Fight Hype.
“I think he’s sharp, he’s fast, he’s quick, he’s punching a lot harder. He’s smart, that’s the thing about it. He’s a smart fighter. And he knows what we need to do, we go over there, we got to take it.”
To get to this opportunity, Haney parted ways with promoter Eddie Hearn, who was responsible for the promotion of his last seven fights. He is now signed in a multi-fight deal with Top Rank.
The 42-year-old boxing promoter believes that Haney will do more than enough to walk away from the contest with the undisputed lightweight crown.
“You shouldn’t have anything but respect for Haney considering he has got no help,” Hearn said.
“His dad was unable to land in the country, which can affect you mentally. He has a depleted corner, and he is in the yard of George Kambosos,” Hearn told IFL TV.
