Dmitry Bivol No Longer Interested In Canelo Alvarez Rematch
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez had made his intentions clear that he wanted to even the score with the current WBA light heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol. But the matchup seems miles away from reality now after Russian’s recent quotations regarding the possible rematch.
Canelo (58-2, 39 KOs) came out short in an attempt to create history when he faced the 175-lb titlist, Dmitry Bivol earlier this year. Canelo – already a four-division champ – was in pursuit of another glory, but was halted in May by the defiant Russian who defended his WBA light heavyweight crown in a dominant fashion.
After the fight, Canelo immediately called out for a rematch which Bivol accepted without giving a second thought to it. But things have taken a complete turnaround as the Russian fighter has indicated that he is moved on from the idea of fighting Canelo once again as he seeks a newer challenge.
“He wants a rematch. It’s not a surprise to me because he’s a champion,” said Bivol to Fight Hub TV.
“It’s okay for him that he wants revenge. Of course, the better way for me is to move forward, move up. We can talk about a rematch, but it’s not interesting to me like it was before.”
