Dos Santos Off UFC Moscow

The main event for the UFC’s return to Russia is now in flux as former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has been pulled from the card.

First reported by RT Sport, dos Santos was taken off the November 9th card against Alexander Volkov due to what MMA Fighting claims to be a serious bacterial infection.

The infection, which is in dos Santos leg has forced him into a week-long hospital stay that included two procedures, one to drain his leg and the other to remove the infection.

This fight was set to be the last of dos Santos’ contract, following a loss to Francis Ngannou this past June that ended a three-fight winning streak for the former champion.

This marks Volkov’s first fight since his stunning UFC 229 stoppage loss to Derrick Lewis, due to a scheduled April fight with Alistair Overeem falling through.
