Daniel Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs) has leapfrogged both Tyson Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) and Agit Kabayel (27-0, 19 KOs) in Ring Magazine’s heavyweight rankings following his stoppage win over Fabio Wardley (20-1-1, 19 KOs) last weekend to claim the WBO world heavyweight title. He is now in the number 1 contender’s spot sitting only behind unified champion Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs).
The victory, which saw him recover from two knockdowns before stopping Wardley, has been enough to put him above Fury and Kabayel in the rankings. The move is likely to split critics considering Kabayel remains unbeaten, yet finds himself overtaken without having is next fight.
As for Dubois jumping ahead of Fury, that is more clearcut considering Fury lost back-to-back fights vs. Usyk before announcing his “retirement”, which lasted just over a year. He did win his return bout on April 11, however it was a decision victory over the relatively unknown Arslan Makhmudov (21-3, 19KO)
