Dustin Poirier Honored By The UFC
Not only did Dustin Poirier get the big win in the octagon this Saturday night against Dan Hooker, but he was awarded for his efforts outside of fighting.
Poirier (26-6, 1 NC) was named the first-ever Forrest Griffin Community Award winner. UFC President Dana White picks out the winner, one who represents the UFC’s values. Poirier is being recognized for The Good Fight Foundation and will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity during the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.
“Dustin is a great athlete, but more importantly he’s a great human being,” White said. “He is a kid who works hard and is passionate about giving back to not only his community, but to those who are less fortunate.”
“We would like to congratulate Dustin on being selected as the first-ever Forrest Griffin Community Award recipient,” Toyo Tires Vice President of Marketing Tim Chaney said. “We admire and commend Dustin for his efforts to support his local community and are pleased to donate $25,000 to the charity of his choice.”
Along with his wife Jolie, “The Diamond” started the foundation in 2018. the mission was to do positive things in the community by helping those in need. The foundation has helped with Thanksgiving food and school supply drives. Through the efforts of Dustin and his wife, they were able to provide the Batwa Pygmy Tribe over 43.21 acres of solar-powered water wells for a sustainable environment.

“If they don’t have the stuff to do it, we can run their stuff and we can auction off through The Good Fight and we would love to help them put together things that mean something to them in their local communities,” Poirier said, via MMA Fighting. “I’d love to give this foundation branches to work with as many athletes as possible to see how many people we can help because that is what it is all about.”
Poirier’s foundation has been brought up before in the UFC. Although he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Title last November, Nurmagomedov helped raise more than $100,000 in donations with Poirier.
The Good Fight Foundation has been important now more than ever with COVID-19 affecting the world. Over 1,000 meals have been donated by Poirier and his foundation to frontline healthcare workers at hospitals and clinics.
Poirier is now 5-1 in his last six fights following the win against Hooker. He’s ranked third in the UFC’s lightweight rankings.
