Dwayne Johnson Reveals First Look At MMA Film ‘Smashing Machine’

Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, gave fans a glimpse of his upcoming MMA film Smashing Machine.

Johnson plays the role of former UFC and PRIDE fighter Mark Kerr. Kerr became a Pride FC Heavyweight Champion and a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion. The movie centres on Kerr’s addiction issues, looking at his dependency on painkillers and narcotics. Benny Safdie will direct the project.

“I’m proud to say that myself and Seven Bucks Productions are going to make a film about the life of one of your founding fathers, the pioneering founding fathers, ‘The Smashing Machine’ Mark Kerr. Mark Kerr’s story is such an incredible story. Here’s a guy who won the two-time heavyweight tournament in the early stages of UFC, and here’s a guy who also went over to PRIDE, (and) he had this incredible run. As many of these warriors have, and I wanted to shine a spotlight on this man,” Johnson said

Johnson has already begun training for the role. He is a massive combat sports fan, having presented Jorge Masvidal with the BMF Belt in 2019 when he beat Nate Diaz at UFC 244. The following footage shows Johnson sparring and grappling as he puts in the hard yards.
