Eddie Hearn Becomes Chairman Of Matchroom Sport

Eddie Hearn has taken over as the chairman of Matchroom.

Hearn has long been the face of Matchroom Boxing. He has served as a director for the promotion. His father, Barry, is the founder and was the chairman.

In a Twitter post, Eddie announced that Barry is stepping aside and that he will be the new chairman of Matchroom.

“Today is a major day for our family as my dad steps aside as Chairman of Matchroom Sport and I take up the role. Anyone that knows me is well aware of what Matchroom means to me and our family. I look forward to continuing the global growth of this astonishing family business.”

Barry founded Matchroom back in 1982. The promotion had an emphasis on snooker. As years passed, the company branched out. Eddie joined Matchroom in 2004 as the Chief Executive of the PGA EuroPro Tour before making his mark in the world of boxing.

Hearn is in the midst of putting together the massive heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Hearn has been working with Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum in an effort to make the bout a reality. Arum recently claimed that three potential dates have been lined up. He also confirmed the matchup will take place in Saudi Arabia.
