Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn doesn’t sense any fear in Billy Joe Saunders ahead of the big title fight against Canelo Alvarez.
Saunders, who holds the WBO Super-Middleweight Championship, is expected to collide with Canelo on May 8. Canelo is the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Champion. The winner of this bout will be one step closer to unifying all of the 168-pound gold.
During an interview with Erika Montoya, Hearn said that Saunders will go into the fight with Canelo fearless (via BoxingScene.com).
“When I’m sitting watching Canelo I think ‘how good this fighter is, he can’t be beat.’ But here comes Billy Joe Saunders, who has long said he will beat Canelo. I think if there is anyone, in the division that can stop him, it’s Saunders… because he has the style and the movement and he has something different in his head: He is not afraid.”
In his last outing back in December, Saunders earned his second successful title defense when he defeated Martin Murray via unanimous decision. As for Canelo, he was last seen at the end of February. The Mexican star ran through Avni Yildirim to score a third-round TKO victory.
A location for Canelo vs. Saunders has not been determined. While a return to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami or the Alamodome in San Antonio could be seen as safe bets, more venues are starting to open up in the United States.
