Eddie Hearn Calls Out False Canelo-Ryder Pay-Per-View Numbers – ‘Bull****’
Eddie Hearn has slammed reports suggesting that the Canelo Alvarez vs John Ryder pay-per-view numbers were lower than expected.
Following the news that Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia did over $1.2 million pay-per-view buys, the pressure was on Canelo to deliver in his native country of Mexico against Ryder.
This is because Davis was dubbed the ‘face of boxing’ following his win over Garcia, thus casting a negative light on Canelo’s current star power.
After all, following the Mexican’s loss to Dmitry Bivol, there are question marks over whether or not Canelo is past his prime. This became even more vocal following Canelo’s failure to knock out Ryder.
With that being said, Hearn made it clear that the current number of pay-per-view buys being bandied about was incorrect.
Reports suggested that Canelo-Ryder did 150k-200k buys, whereas Hearn has suggested the contrary, saying the numbers were double.
“Absolute b****cks! More like double that. These are the times when I wish DAZN would just come out and say the numbers because those numbers are bull****.
“The fight was on DAZN, but also on various other pay-per-view platforms as well. Direct TV and many other platforms. So miles out on the numbers,” Hearn
