Eddie Hearn: Canelo Asked Me To Arrange Caleb Plant Fight

Eddie Hearn has revealed that Canelo Alvarez has tasked him with arranging a showdown with Caleb Plant.

Canelo is just one title away from becoming the undisputed super-middleweight champion. Canelo recently added the WBO gold to his mantle with an eighth-round TKO victory over Billy Joe Saunders. Canelo also holds the WBA, WBC, and The Ring Titles. The only major 168-pound hardware that Canelo doesn’t have is the IBF gold, which is held by Plant.

Canelo’s bout with Saunders was the last one of his short-term Matchroom Boxing deal. Despite this, Canelo continues to work with Hearn in some capacity. Not only is Canelo working with Hearn on an event in association with his own promotion, but he’s even letting Hearn arrange the Plant bout.

Here’s what the Matchroom head honcho told BoxingScene.com.

“Canelo has asked me to go and arrange this fight for him. I can go on any platform with Canelo, but DAZN are going to make a major play.

“[PBC founder Al] Haymon might turn around and say I’m not letting Plant fight on DAZN, even though the offer might be huge. If he does, Canelo has got to make his call, got to look at the FOX offer and go from there.”

PBC’s Al Haymon has been known to only push for marquee fights to take place on Showtime, FOX, and PPV. With a fight the magnitude of Canelo vs. Plant, it’s possible that Haymon will prevent the IBF Champion from fighting on DAZN.
