Eddie Hearn Dismisses Joshua Buatsi Vs. Callum Johnson Fight

The Matchroom head honcho Eddie Hearn has put down the idea of Joshua Buatsi (16-0, 13 KOs) competing for the European title going forward. Hearn gave this announcement while answering questions on social media.

The British promoter had come to social media to answer questions regarding Buatsi’s potential bout against former Commonwealth champion Callum Johnson.

Queensberry Promotions holds the responsibility of promoting Johnson, who also trains with Joe Gallagher in Manchester. Recently, Queensberry Promotions won purse bids to set up the title taken away from Mathieu Bauderlique.

The 33-year-old proceeded to take part in the final eliminator for the WBC world title against Callum Smith, which is expected to be scheduled on August 20 at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.

Johnson was initially scheduled to compete for the world title earlier on in the year against Joe Smith Jr., who was the world champion during that time before withdrawing from this matchup. Furthermore, he withdrew from his return on July 2 at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London.

“That fight [between Buatsi and Johnson] is not happening. [Buatsi’s next] fight [will be] announced shortly.” Hearn stated.

According to Boxing Social, the fight for Buatsi will be announced sooner rather than later as he looks forward to having a shot at global glory.
