Eddie Hearn: Everyone From Our Side Wants Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn insists that everyone on Anthony Joshua’s team is on board with the Tyson Fury fight.
Joshua is coming off a successful WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Title defense against Kubrat Pulev. Joshua scored the ninth-round knockout victory in his first bout since avenging his lone career loss against Andy Ruiz Jr. After the fight, Joshua said that he’s ready to face anyone in his path, including Fury.
Hearn also chimed in, saying that Joshua is all in on making the fight with Fury a reality (via BoxingScene.com).
“I can’t make it clearer from our side that everybody wants the fight,” he added. “It’s a natural fight. There’s nobody on the team who doesn’t want the fight. ‘AJ’ isn’t the kind of guy who is going to come out, screaming and shouting people’s names.
“Of course, he wants the fight and I’m going to keep schtum and tell you that it’s my job to deliver that fight next and I’ll do everything that I can to deliver it and we should start that immediately.”
This bout would be cross-promotion. Fury is promoted by Bob Arum in the United States and Frank Warren in the UK. Hearn handles the promotional work for Joshua.
The WBO has stated that Joshua must face mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk next unless Usyk agrees to step aside. Otherwise, “AJ” would have to vacate his title, which would mean that Joshua vs. Fury wouldn’t be contested to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Hearn has said that he hopes to reach a deal where Usyk fights for the vacant gold after Joshua and Fury fight for the undisputed distinction.
