Eddie Hearn: Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul Is Absolutely Horrendous
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn is baffled by Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul.
Mayweather vs. Paul was initially set to take place in February. It would’ve been an exhibition bout broadcast on PPV through Fanmio. Plans have changed as reports claim Showtime PPV will now be carrying the exhibition on June 5.
We’ve seen a recent surge of high-profile exhibition boxing matches. Some have labeled the inclusion of Jake and Logan Paul as well as the return of boxing legends as “freakshows.” Others are praising the new surge for generating interest and revenue.
While Hearn has been known to be open-minded, he is no fan of Mayweather vs. Paul. He explained why during a chat with iFL TV (h/t Boxing News 24).
“Mayweather – Logan Paul is absolutely horrendous. I mean, look, I can understand Jake Paul against Ben Askren, and actually, Jake Paul against Tommy Fury.
“I don’t think that fight [Jake vs. Tommy] will get made, but Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul, what is that?”
Mayweather ended his pro boxing career with a perfect record of 50-0. The Hall of Fame elect has made it clear that he won’t be returning to the ring as a professional but he’ll continue to do exhibition matches. Some think this could tarnish Mayweather’s legacy but “Money” has always taken advantage of opportunities to cash out.
As for Logan Paul, he’s 0-1 as a professional boxer. The loss came against fellow YouTuber KSI. He also had an amateur bout with KSI, which ended in a draw. Hearn promoted Paul vs. KSI.
