Eddie Hearn: ‘No One Wants To Give Anthony Joshua Credit’
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn feels there aren’t too many people lining up to give Anthony Joshua his due.
Joshua holds most of the major gold at heavyweight. He is the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion. The only piece of hardware separating Joshua and the undisputed status is the WBC gold held by Tyson Fury.
Hearn, who promotes Joshua, appeared on SiriusXM and DAZN’s Ak & Barak Show to share his belief that “AJ” is underappreciated (via BoxingScene.com).
“To be honest, I find it absolutely hilarious. I mean, like you’ve got Bob Arum saying Pulev will absolutely destroy Joshua in this fight, blah, blah, blah. And then Pulev don’t win one round and gets dismantled and knocked out, and Arum goes, ‘I wasn’t very impressed by his performance.’ I mean, absolutely no one wants to give Anthony Joshua any credit. But unfortunately, this is the way of the world when you’re at the top. You know?”
Joshua is fresh off a successful title defense over Kubrat Pulev on December 12. Joshua won the fight via ninth-round knockout. It was “AJ’s” first bout since avenging the lone defeat of his pro boxing career back in December 2019.
After the fight, Fury criticized Joshua as he felt the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titleholder didn’t commit to fighting him. “AJ” has insisted that his team will make Fury a serious offer and if “The Gypsy King” passes up the opportunity, he will move on to fight mandatory WBO challenger Oleksandr Usyk.
