Eddie Hearn Responds To Bob Arum’s Rant On Sky Sports
Eddie Hearn is aware of Bob Arum’s rant on Sky Sports and he has responded.
Arum has been revving up promotion for a massive title unification bout under Top Rank Boxing. That bout will be Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez and it’ll take place on October 17. Lomachenko is the WBA (Super) and WBO Lightweight Champion, while Lopez is the IBF titleholder.
During Lomachenko’s media call, Arum expressed his belief that Sky Sports is money-hungry for putting on three pay-per-view events to close out 2020. All of these events will be promoted by Matchroom Boxing. Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn had the following response.
“Bob says whatever suits Bob at the time. But Bob’s sulking because he couldn’t find a customer. That’s basically what’s happened. On one hand, Bob says that Sky do too many pay-per-views and blah, blah, blah. And he pitched to Sky, Top Rank did, Kell Brook against Terence Crawford on pay-per-view. So on one hand, he’s accusing these people of doing too many pay-per-views. On the other hand, he’s trying to sell them a pay-per-view. Sky rejected that fight, so he was pissed off. Then he came back and said, ‘we want this much money for this fight,’ and the answer was ‘no.’ So he was pissed off again.”
Hearn then explained that Sky wasn’t willing to air more boxing events for 2020 outside of the ones committed to Matchroom Boxing. This is due to budget reasons. He also said that the reason why Lomachenko vs. Lopez wasn’t purchased by Sky boils down to time differences. The fight will indeed air in the UK through FITE TV.
