Eddie Hearn Says Anthony Joshua Is A Different Fighter Going Into Kubrat Pulev Bout

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn thinks Anthony Joshua’s improvements will be on display against Kubrat Pulev.

Joshua is set to put his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles up for grabs against Pulev. The title fight will take place on Saturday, December 12. This will be Joshua’s first bout since defeating Andy Ruiz in a rematch one year ago.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Hearn expressed his belief that Joshua will showcase a new and improved version of his fighting style.

“Everybody says ‘AJ has vulnerabilities’ but when you get in the ring then get a jab, right hand, from Joshua? Everything changes. They look at the Ruiz Jr fight. They might look at the Wladimir Klitschko and Dillian Whyte fights to say ‘he can be hurt.’ But any heavyweight can be hurt. The improvements he is making? You will see them on December 12. You will see a different fighter.

“Joshua has said: ‘When I fought Klitschko, Carlos Takam and Joseph Parker I didn’t really know what I was doing.’ It is bizarre for someone to say that! He was a complete novice and now he is a seasoned fighter – bigger, stronger, wiser.”

Joshua is hoping that a win over Pulev will lead to a title unification showdown with WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury. Both men have agreed in principle to two fights. Fury is planning to return in early 2021. Hearn has urged “The Gypsy King” not to take a tuneup fight as he wants the bout with Joshua to take place in late May.
