Eddie Hearn Says He’s Done Promoting YouTube Boxing For Now
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn insists he is done with YouTube Boxing for now.
Hearn promoted the rematch between YouTube sensations KSI and Logan Paul back in November 2019. KSI won the fight via split decision. The bout aired live on DAZN.
During an edition of The Ak & Barak Show, set to air on SiriusXM Fight Nation channel 156 at 1 p.m. ET on December 1, Hearn said that he’ll be staying away from promoting YouTube boxing cards for now.
“I’ve been there, I’ve experienced it and I’m comfortable and happy with what I’ve done. I think I’ve retired from YouTube boxing. It doesn’t mean I won’t make a comeback at some time but I’m kinda comfortable with the fact we’ve been there, we’ve done it. It makes me laugh now, and I wasn’t the first to do it by the way, but now it’s like this new thing. I’m thinking, ‘oh wow guys, we did that over a year ago. We’ve been there, we’ve experienced that.'”
Jake Paul recently took on Nate Robinson in the co-main event of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. card. Paul knocked Robinson out cold in the second round. Hearn said fight fans shouldn’t be upset at fight cards such as the one that was promoted by Triller.
“I haven’t seen the whole event but what I saw from the event I liked. I think there will be boxing fans around the world that were turning in their graves watching that show, but we can’t be so blinkered. We can’t be so, sort of just stubborn to say we can’t try new things, we can’t try and bring a new audience to the sport of boxing.”
